Lake Minnewanka

At the entrance to Banff Gondola, we bought a two-in-one entry ticket. The ticket entitled us to enter the Banff Gondola and to join a boat cruise at Lake Minnewanka.

We spent the morning at Banff Gondola and drove to Lake Minnewanka after lunch in the afternoon to join the 4pm boat cruise.

Lake Minnewanka which is approx. 9Km northeast of Banff town is an S-shaped lake tugged in between numerous mountains. It is 28Km long, 1Km wide for most of the length and 142m deep.

Other than the majestic mountains and the sparsely tree-lined hill slopes, there was nothing really attractive to see. The tour boat guide did say that the surrounding is inhabited by elk, mule deer, mountain sheep and bears, but we saw none of them. She also told the visitors that the area was occupied by the aboriginal people very very long time ago. The archaeologists had found stone tools and a Clovis point spearhead. Instead of putting it on display, they decided to rebury it at one secret spot by the lake side for perpetual preservation.
