KK Wetlands

The Sabah World Water Day 2-Day Conference held on 21-22 March ended with a visit to the KK Wetlands. Many might find this name unfamiliar and are used to its old names - the Likas Swamp, Likas Mangrove or the KK City Bird Sanctuary.

I felt a bit guilty that I had traveled thousands of miles to see other similar wetlands (Read here) and (Taman Paya Bakau) but failed to pay a visit to one situated at my home city's backyard. Thi is a mere 2.9Km away from KK city centre just behind the Signal Hill where the city clock tower is built.

The site covers 24 hectares of mangrove forest and is traversed by a 1.5Km of boardwalk. An hour of slow walk along the boardwalk allows one to enjoy fresh sir and tranquility and at the same time it provides a pleasant experience of spotting birds, plants and wildlife

The Swing Team: February 2018

Part of the Swing Team gathered on 15 February 2018 for another photo shoot. This was made possible because of the occasion of the marriage of two of the original members - Tai Tai and Wan Wan.

The pioneer Swing Team was first captured in 1984, almost 34 years ago (Read here), I have since watched with amazement how the membership has blossomed and multiplied. It has moved from Gen X & Y to Gen Z. Many have since got married and have children of their own and some have moved overseas to live in other parts of the world. Of course, the single major event was the passing of the patriarch just under three years ago.

Over the years when more and more members of the families move overseas to settle down, it takes creativity to gather them to meet up again. The new couples were ingenious to choose the occasion of CNY to celebrate their marriages. That made it so much easier for the get-together for the whole gang. After all, it is a Chinese tradition for family members to come together for the annual reunion.

The Tea Ceremony.
Baby Boomer Generation.
Baby Boomers, Gen X,Y and Gen Z.
Toast to the new couples!
With the new couple, Shu Hong & Shakti.
With the new couple Sophia & Simon.
The reunion ended with a BBQ at the matriarch's home. The Lim's also set a new record when the English educated led the singing of Chinese new year songs. It was quite a surprise that the ambient that night had liberated the perceived conservative seniors into a group of vibrant singers and dancers.

Everyone had a good time. For sure, this will be remembered for a very very long time especially the family of the new couples.

Christmas 2017 Photo Shoots

The Studio finally delivered all the photos to me on 24 March 2018 which we took on 22 December 2017, just two days shy of three months.

It is extremely rare for every member of the family to be able to gather and meet as a whole family. So, when we managed to meet as a complete family last Christmas, we decided to have photo shoot by professional. It was a fun experience except for the little one. Even with super fast snapping speed by the cameraman, her teary poses could not be avoided. One day when she looks back, she might exclaim, "Why didn't I hold my crisp smile just for a teeny-weeny five seconds longer!". Well, that's part and parcel of growing pain.
