Growing Up Pains

Nathan, our grandson has a serious cut at the lower lip hardly after the second day we arrived to Perth to spend time with Nathan and the parents. The cut was sustained when we were at the house front compound immediately after getting home from some shopping. He was happily moving at the front lawn when suddenly he tripped and...........The sight of the cut really put us in great shock and as grand parents, we really felt bad of the timing. Both parents and grand parents were really traumatised, I bet the extent would be much much more than what little Nathan has felt.

The rest of the night after the incident was particularly painful as scenes and scenes of similar incidents of yesteryears flashed by.

Our daughter has a cut at her forehead when she fell and knocked the edge of the aluminium sliding door.............

Our eldest boy was riding his tricycle outside our house and almost got run down by a lorry..........

Our second son jumped and his face knocked onto the handle of the bed side cabinet. The punctured location was millimetres from the eye............

By the grace of God, they survived.

Whether as parents or grand parents, the memory of such incidents (which we know is part and parcel of growing up pains) still pained our hearts severely. When Nathan had this accident,we still have this feeling of helplessness when it happened. However, we know that God is still in control, and we can only surrender our little grandson to His grace and healing.

Of course, my childhood was no better. I survived after being bitten by a poisonous spider as a little boy. At another time, I survived with an anti-tetanus jab after being pierced by a rusted nail.

One day in the not too distant future, I will say this to a slightly grown up Nathan: "You know what, your teeny tiny little scar at the lower lip which is hardly visible had one time almost caused your grand dad's heart to pop out ! Fortunately you are a strong boy and I am a strong grand dad and we both survive !"
