One of the highlights of our family trip to Hokkaido was celebrating my granddaughter Grace's 13th birthday in Sapporo, Japan. It was a simple family celebration, yet one that made the occasion especially memorable because it took place in a foreign country surrounded by those who love her.
As we celebrated together, I could not help but reflect on how quickly time has passed. I still remember celebrating her 2nd birthday in Sabah back in 2015 (Read here), followed by another birthday celebration in Western Australia the following year (Read here). Those memories seem like only yesterday. Looking back at the photographs now, it is hard to believe that the cheerful little girl who once depended so much on her parents has grown into a confident and independent young teenager.
Today, Grace is a Year 7 high school student who has embraced the responsibilities that come with growing up. Every school day, she travels independently by train, transfers to a bus, and walks the rest of the way to school. Seeing her navigate public transport with confidence is a reminder of how much she has matured over the years.
Outside the classroom, Grace has developed into a well-rounded young lady. She has a keen interest in netball and enjoys singing, while continuing to excel academically. Friendly, sociable, and caring, she mixes well with her classmates and friends and approaches life with enthusiasm and confidence. These qualities, together with her willingness to learn and grow, give us every reason to believe that she has a bright and promising future ahead of her.
For grandparents, one of life's greatest blessings is watching grandchildren grow - not only in height and age, but also in character, confidence, and wisdom. Every birthday marks another milestone, reminding us how precious time is and how fortunate we are to witness these special moments together.
Celebrating Grace's 13th birthday in Sapporo will always hold a special place in our hearts. It was more than just a birthday celebration; it became another cherished family memory from our journey through Japan. As she enters her teenage years, we pray that God will continue to guide her steps, grant her wisdom in every decision, and bless her with good health, meaningful friendships, and a life filled with purpose and joy.
May the years ahead be filled with wonderful opportunities, new adventures, and abundant blessings. We are immensely proud of the young lady you have become, and we look forward to seeing what God has in store for your future.
