The Central Market Hall or the Great Market Hall is the largest and oldest market in Budapest. This is a favorite destination of tourists. Built in the late 19th century, it has a plan area of 10,000 sq.m. which is the size of two football fields.
The famous pedestrian shopping street Vaci Utca leads straight to the main entrance of the market. |
Beggars are rare but we saw this just before crossing the road to the main entrance of the market. |
Single level outlets occupy the central area. Around the inner building wall, outlets are three levels. |

Our lunch at the Central Market was Goulash Soup - a popular stew of meat seasoned with spices. This dish originated from the 9th century as stews eaten by the Hungarian shepherds.

Our excursion to the market ended just before night fall. We had coffee and enjoyed the entertainment provided by the busker before heading back to our hotel.
