Tango

My bet is that most first time visitors to Buenos Aires would be led to visit sites related to the four national icons: Evita Peron, Pope Francis, Diego Maradona and Carlos Gardel. We visited the grave of Evita, the football stadium once Maradona played and the Metropolitan Cathedral where Pope Francis used to perform mass.

Argentinians regards the suburb of Buenos Aires as the birth place of Tango. Carlos Gardel, a French Argentinian is regarded as their greatest promoter of Tango and even credited with the title: King of Tango. Naturally, we were taken to witness a Tango performance cum dinner at Cafe de los Angelito in Buenos Aires, a venue once Carlos performed.

This Cafe established in 1890 has a hall that is cramped but classic. The stage is small and the small band performed on an elevated platform just above the back of the stage. Our dining table formed in a long jointed format allowed close view of the performance throughout.
