Cannoli in Noto

After breakfast on 24 May, we left Catania for Ortigia in our chartered van. Along the way, we stopped at Noto, Ragusa and Modica.

As tourists, what we decide to see and eat are very much dictated by what we read in the travel reviews in the internet. The cannoli sold in Caffe Sicilia in Noto has been acclaimed as the best cannoli in Noto by many. As someone who tasted such pastry for the first time, it would be difficult for me to dispute this! But the overwhelming good reviews and complements about their cannoli, granita, brioche and even ice cream sold there seem to confirm their pastry and confectionery making skills!.

Cannoli & Croissant.

A short distance from Caffe Sicilia is Palazzo Ducezio, a late 18th century building of symmetric design, now used as Noto Town Hall.

Directly opposite to the Town Hall is the celebrated Noto Roman Catholic Cathedral, a very grand imposing church building with a huge front courtyard and massive staircase.

A major part of the cathedral collapsed in March 1996. The restoration took eleven years to complete and the building was re-opened finally in June 2007.

Both St. Francis of Assisi & Mother Teresa are revered here.
