Mount Etna, Sicily

We left Florence for Catania by Vueling Airlines on 23 May. Upon our arrival to Catania Airport, our chartered van took us straight to Mount Etna - an active volcano at the east of Sicily Island.

Mt. Etna towers to a height of 3,329m, much lower than our Mt. Kinabalu at 4,105m. In contrast, Mt. Etna is deadly. The deadliest eruption happened on 8 March 1669. Multiple eruptions over the next few weeks killed more than 20,000 people and left thousands homeless. Mt. Etna last spewed lava up into the sky on 17 March 2017.

Rest areas, eateries, multitudes of tourist buses and cars
indeed look precarious next to an active volcano.
Deep inside a "dormant" pit.

The ambiance next to Mt. Etna is conducive for the "friendship" between grandpa and granddaughter to blossom even further!
