Mammoth Cave

I have lost count of the number of caves I have visited all these years. The last caves we visited are the Mulu Caves near Miri, Sarawak in early last year. That was probably the most interesting caves exploration experience I have had - four caves in all (Deer Cave), (Lang Cave), (Wind Cave), (Clearwater Cave).

Margaret River Region has a number of caves for cave enthusiasts to explore. The accessible ones are the Jewel cave, Lake Cave and Mammoth Cave. In fact, on the way through this region to Augusta, I did hesitate whether we should spend time and look at caves again. In the end, since Mommoth Cave was along the way and easily accessible, we decided to do a short detour to look at this particular cave .

Facilities have improved significantly since our last visit in year 2002. It is now a self-guided tour where visitors can listen to informative audio through headsets provided. Boardwalks and platforms from entrance to exit make it both safe and easy to walk.

Lighting inside this cave is single colour similar to the lighting in Mulu Caves. Many caves we visited in China are lighted with multi-colour light sources. It is interesting to walk though such fairy-tale fun land kind of setting. Still, I prefer single colour as it presents a more original and natural ambient.

After exiting the cave, visitors can choose to trek in the adjacent forest. We decided not to and opted to move on to our next destination.

August 2002. Not very sure whether this is
Mammoth Cave or one of the other caves in
Margaret River Region.
