Claude Monet & Giverny

France has produced a wide variety of artists. The more familiar names are Claude Monet, Paul Gauguin, Eugene Delacroix and Vincent Van Gogh (born in the Netherlands but lived many years in France).

One other place we visited during our day tour out of Paris is a village 80 Km from Paris, Giverny - a place with less than 600 local inhabitants. This place is famous because of Claude Monet. He loved Giverny so much that he decided to buy a house and land and settled down there. He set out to create a garden which gave him inspiration for his many paintings.

Monet stayed there for 43 years until his death in 1926. From his paintings displayed in his former residence, one could tell he loved things of Japanese, garden and flowers.

In this garden, we walked through the water garden, crossed the bridge spanning across the stream, viewed the pond with water lilies and the bamboo by the bank. We imagined Monet sitting in one corner spending hours absorbed in nature. He must have really loved this place,
