Lake District

Windermere in Cumbria at 10.5 miles long, one mile wide and 220 feet deep  is the longest and largest natural lake in England.

Ambleside, a town one mile north of Lake Windermere is a popular destination for tourists. My attention was caught by the unique colour of most buildings around the town - grey slate used as building material for these buildings.

The tallest building in town is the St. Mary's Church which was built between 1850 and 1854 in the Early Gothic style. It has a spire which was built of sandstone rather than the slate used in many buildings in the town.
