Ljubljana, Slovenia

Similar to Zagreb, Ljubljana too has an upper level which is accessible by funicular train from the lower town. The key landmark at the upper platform of Castle Hill is the Ljubljana Castle - a medieval fortress built as early as 11th century. Some of the major buildings in this castle complex were added in the 16th and 17th centuries.

After the Castle tour, we moved to the Preseran Square - a square meant for pedestrians to walk about and appreciate the beauty of this old town. As usual, the attractiveness of a city is enhanced by a river or lake. Ljubljana is no exception. A walk along both banks of  Ljubjanica River is an exquisite and a very visually pleasing experience.

Vodnik Square, adjacent to Preseran square is an open market where makeshift stores sell all kinds of local stuff.
