Hero Square, Budapest

It was almost 4.30pm by the time our bus reached the Hero Square. This is one of the major squares in Budapest - an iconic venue where the statues of the seven chieftains of the Magyars are immortalized. The Museum of Fine Arts and the Art Gallery stands prominently on either side of the square. The Magyars are the forefathers of the Current Hungarians. The original Magyars were of different clans and they fought against each other.  It was Arpad, considered the founder of the Hungarian nation who finally united the different clans.

Arpad stands in front while the other six chieftains, Elod, Ond, Kond, Tas, Huba and Tohotom are behind him.

Adjoining the square is the Varosliget Park which contains a few attractions, one of which is the Vajdahunyad Castle. Unfortunately, time didn't permit us to spend more time there! We could also hang around the lake for a couple of minutes, barely enough to get a few shots of photographs! That was a touch and go visit!

By the lake, we caught a glimpse of Vajdahunyad
Castle at the background.
