Outdoor Activities - Cycling & Rowing

Cycling with grandchildren has become a cherished tradition every time we spend our holidays in WA. As cyclists ourselves, there is truly something special about sharing the freedom of two wheels with these youngsters - their faces light up with excitement as we pedal along, the wind on our faces and laughter in the air!

Each ride around the neighborhood and through a local park quickly turn into a little adventure. We stop along the way to marvel at spiders spinning webs, watch ducks in the pond or greet friendly dogs on their walks. What starts as routine outdoor exercise becomes a journey of discovery.

For this trip to WA, it's trio on wheels - just Grandpa and the two grandchildren. This round, it's often my turn to keep up with their boundless energy and enthusiasm. Most often than not, they are leading the way while I happily pedal behind - a delightful role reversal!

In the end, cycling with grandchildren is about so much more than fresh air and exercise. It's about joy, discovery and togetherness - a reminder that the best rides in life are often found in small, shared moments that bring us together.

During our second round of the cycling trip, Nathan joined us. At about 1.5Km from home, the handlebar of Gracie's bike suddenly came loose. Without hesitation, her brother offered her his own bike and he carried the malfunctioning one by hand all the way home. What a thoughtful and selfless gesture from this young man to his sister!

Nathan and Grace love anything to do with water - whether it's swimming, canoeing or kayaking. Back in October 2023, we were at Bicton Baths trying out a portable inflatable canoe (Read here). This time, it was rowing a portable inflatable bodyboard which we brought along.

I have to admit, I am not much of a water enthusiast. Still, Gracie managed to convince me to hop on the board while she propelled us along using a single oar - and I have to say, it was more fun than I expected - though one ride was more than enough for me! Impressively, she did the same for her grandma and mom - she is indeed a strong girl for her age!
Gracie is always fascinated by the big jellyfish found
in the water.
